If you are working in a classroom setting, it can help to rehearse together (see figure 5.3). With everyone facing the same direction, start to speak your own poem at the same time as the rest of the group. When you finish, just hold; everyone will finish at a slightly different time. Do not look around; just hold your place. When everyone is done, the leader says, âOne, two, three,â and all together everyone says, âHa!â or performs a single sharp clap. This clears the air. Knowing to wait until hearing âOne, two, threeâ to say âHa!â or to clap at the end of the exercise helps everyone know to hold positions until all have finished. This also helps your instructor assess your progress and see how everyone is doing with memorization.
